This position involves both fieldwork and strategic oversight, making it a dynamic and engaging role within the Department of Labour.

Key Requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
  • A three-year qualification in:
    • Labour Relations
    • Labour Law
    • LLB
    • BCom Law
  • At least two (2) years of functional experience in Inspection and Enforcement Services
  • A valid driver’s license
In addition, candidates must have a solid understanding of key labour legislation, including:
  • Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA)
  • Labour Relations Act (LRA)
  • Employment Equity Act (EEA)
  • Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS)
  • Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA)
  • Unemployment Insurance Act (UIA) and UIF Contributions Act
  • Skills Development Act and Skills Development Levies Act
  • Immigration Act and SABS Codes

Key Responsibilities

This role involves overseeing inspections, investigations, compliance enforcement, and team coordination to ensure that labour laws are properly implemented.

Inspection and Compliance Monitoring

  • Plan and conduct workplace inspections independently.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant labour legislation.
  • Identify non-compliance and take corrective action.
  • Monitor working conditions and employer practices.

Investigations and Legal Enforcement

  • Conduct investigations into reported violations of labour laws.
  • Gather evidence and compile case files.
  • Enforce compliance through legal channels where necessary.
  • Prepare for court proceedings and appear as a State witness.

Proactive Inspections (Blitz Operations)

  • Plan and execute proactive inspections to identify risks early.
  • Monitor high-risk sectors and workplaces.

Advocacy and Awareness Campaigns
