Who We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in social sciences or a related field and experience in conducting professional vetting investigations. This role requires a combination of investigative rigor, analytical thinking, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Requirements
- Educational Qualification: National Diploma or Degree at NQF Level 7 in Social Science or a relevant field as recognized by SAQA.
- Experience: 3 to 5 years of experience in vetting investigations in either the public or private sector.
- Vetting Expertise: Experience conducting fieldwork investigations and compiling reports for management, the State Security Agency (SSA), and quality assurance purposes. Must be able to conduct investigations for Confidential, Secret, and Top-Secret levels.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Experience liaising with SSA, SAPS, Home Affairs, and other intelligence or security stakeholders.
- Technical Skills: Strong research, analytical, and report-writing capabilities, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Other Skills: Ability to coordinate pre-employment screening processes, work under pressure, travel frequently, and operate in potentially sensitive or intimidating conditions.
Knowledge of Legislative and Regulatory Framework
Candidates must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the legislative and regulatory framework governing vetting processes and security clearance. This ensures all investigations are conducted lawfully and in alignment with government protocols.
What You Will Do
As a Vetting Investigator, your work will be crucial in maintaining national security by ensuring that only suitable personnel are employed in sensitive positions. Your duties will include:
Conducting Vetting Fieldwork Investigations
- Gather, validate, and analyze information from multiple sources.
- Conduct investigations for Confidential, Secret, and Top-Secret security clearances.
- Compile and submit detailed vetting reports to management and the SSA.
- Ensure quality control of all vetting files, maintaining accuracy and completeness.
Policy and Guidelines Input
- Provide input into the development and implementation of vetting policies, guidelines, and standards.
- Interpret legislation and regulations to advise management on best practices and compliance issues.
- Continuously update knowledge on changing regulatory frameworks to maintain best practices.
Stakeholder Liaison and Information Management
- Liaise effectively with SSA, SAPS, Home Affairs, and other relevant intelligence and security stakeholders.
- Manage relationships with credit information providers and external data sources.
- Provide advisory support on pre-employment suitability assessments and security clearances.
File Administration and Project Support
- Maintain accurate vetting files and ensure proper documentation of all investigative processes.
- Participate in project and task teams to support departmental vetting programs.
- Coordinate pre-employment screenings, ensuring timely and accurate processing of vetting applications.
- Conduct research related to vetting investigations and prepare reports that inform decision-making.
Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare reports, memos, and submissions based on vetting investigations.
- Ensure all documentation is filed and managed according to departmental and legislative standards.
- Assist in audits, inspections, and quality assurance checks of vetting processes.
