Educational Qualifications

  • Grade 12 certificate
  • NQF Level 6 qualification in:
    • Biomedical Technology
    • Health Sciences or related field

Experience

  • At least three (3) years’ experience in:
    • STI and condom programme training
    • Managing condom-related complaints and quality issues

Knowledge Areas

Candidates should have a solid understanding of:

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Assistant Director: Barrier Method will play a central role in coordinating and strengthening the national condom and barrier methods programme.

Programme Coordination and Implementation

  • Coordinate barrier method sub-programme activities across provinces
  • Ensure alignment with National HIV and STI Prevention Strategies
  • Facilitate and coordinate condom projections and planning at provincial level
  • Oversee distribution of condoms from contracted suppliers

Supply Chain and Logistics Support

  • Support provinces in managing Logistics Management Information Systems (LMIS)
  • Ensure efficient distribution systems for male and female condoms
  • Provide technical support to improve supply chain performance

Training and Capacity Building

  • Coordinate and support training and re-orientation programmes on condom use and distribution
  • Strengthen provincial capacity for effective programme implementation
  • Develop and implement guidelines, protocols, and training materials

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Monitor implementation of the condom programme across provinces
  • Evaluate performance at key intervention sites
  • Compile and submit reports on programme progress and outcomes
  • Recommend improvements based on data and field observations

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication

  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders, including HTA structures and partners
  • Provide guidance on the interpretation of national policies and directives
  • Communicate updates and programme developments to provincial teams

Policy Development and Campaign Coordination

  • Contribute to the development and review of condom marketing strategies and policies
  • Coordinate national campaigns such as STI/Condom Week
  • Ensure consistent messaging and effective outreach strategies

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Monitor batch testing results from the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS)
  • Conduct site visits to provincial depots and warehouses
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and programme requirements
