Educational Qualification
Applicants must hold a qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner.
Professional Registration
- Must be registered with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner

Experience Requirements
Grade 1
- No experience required for South African-qualified applicants after HPCSA registration
- At least 1 year of relevant experience for foreign-qualified applicants (if community service is not required)
Grade 2
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Medical Practitioner (SA-qualified)
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience for foreign-qualified applicants
Grade 3
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Medical Practitioner (SA-qualified)
- Minimum of 11 years’ experience for foreign-qualified applicants
