About the Role

This senior position focuses on building and strengthening South Africa’s agro-processing industry—turning raw agricultural products into valuable goods. You’ll lead strategies that empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs), attract investment, and improve food systems.
From policy development to hands-on implementation, this role is all about creating sustainable growth and opportunities.

Key Requirements

To be considered for this high-level role, you must have:
A Degree in Agricultural Economics (NQF Level 7)
Completed Pre-entry Certificate for SMS (National School of Government)
At least 5 years’ experience at the middle or senior management level
Strong background in agro-processing or agricultural economics

A solid understanding of laws such as the Public Finance Management Act, Labour Relations Act, and Treasury Regulations is essential.

  • Facilitate the establishment of dry and cold storage facilities.
  • Support the development of processing plants near production areas.

  • Support small and medium agro-processing businesses.
  • Develop systems to identify and respond to industry needs.
  • Provide strategic guidance and funding support.

Partnerships & Collaboration

  • Build partnerships with industry leaders and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with government departments and investors.
  • Facilitate procurement contracts between established and emerging businesses.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

  • Track performance of agro-processing programmes
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of policies and strategies.
